Ever dreamt of your family heirloom jewels or sari’s from your grandma’s exquisite collection? Or better still her vintage handbag   which she has preserved so carefully for her daughter and granddaughter. While some of us may not have the privilege of inheriting a classic handbag, for that there are vintage stores where we can rummage to bag ourselves an eternal “It” bag. Here is a list of eternally stylish must-have bags that have surpassed decades of seasons to still be seen around on the arms of fashionable women.
LADY DIOR
Named after the late Princess Diana, this handbag has cult status all across the world. The bag was a present to the Princess by the then First Lady of France, Bernadette Chirac during the opening ceremony of the Cezanne Art Exhibition sponsored by Dior. Princess Di was spotted and photographed carrying this structured handbag to many public events. Every fashionista worth their style quotient either owns one or covets one. The main feature of the bag is the âcannage’ pattern which is a geometric grid stitched onto supple lambskin, together with Dior  ’s signature sparkling Lady Dior charms.
HÃRMES KELLY
The Hermes  Kelly is synonymous with style and sophistication. This bag gets another royal nod of approval, with American film star and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco using this famous bag to conceal her pregnancy in 1956. While the bag has been around since 1930, it only got its fair share of fame when the paparazzi photographed Princess Kelly with the handbag on numerous occasions and hence the bag was named after her. The Kelly comes in five different sizes and is made from alligator, crocodile, ostrich-skin, and other natural leathers, it comes with a metal-tipped clasp that is small enough for a tiny padlock. The key to the lock can be easily hidden among the leather tassels attached to the handles. What is the price tag women pay to display their exclusive status? A mere $7000 later a very happy woman can display her wealth on her arm.
CHANEL 2.55
No handbag list is ever complete without mentioning the ubiquitous Chanel  2.55. Right from the time it was introduced in February 1955, (which is the reason behind the name) till today this quilted piece of wonder has women all across the globe lusting for it to be a part of their wardrobe in some shape or colour. This iconic handbag has many key features which were a result of various influences that inspired Coco Chanel. The result was the double chain design of the shoulder strap which was inspired by her memories of the orphanage caretakers who would dangle keys from their waists using a similar chain strap. The burgundy colour lining represents the colour of the uniforms that Coco and the orphans had to wear. The 2.55 also has a secret compartment on the inside front flap and it is rumoured that this is the place where Coco kept her love letters from Nazi spy Hans Gunther von Dincklage during World War II. Another secret pocket is featured in the outside flap at the back of the bag. Available in different colours and three sizes, the quilted material of the 2.55 is inspired by the coats worn by jockeys.
